It is my understanding that they are the factory that makes many of the housebrand 3-in-1 machines sold by Grizzly, Busy Bee, Harbor Freight, etc.

For greater precision, turn a piece of drill rod to a 60° point on one end and drill a hole with a 60° centre bit in the other. Then place the point of the rod in the centre-punched dimple and "pinch" that rod between your tailstock centre. Now set up a DTI or dial indicator against the side of the rod near the chuck.

The G9729 is a nice home unit that allows me to "whittle" out parts at home at my won pace. So far I've built RC airplane parts, fabricated the fixtures to narrow a 10 or 12 bolt Chevy rear end, turned shafts, made tool head adaptors for it, made parts for my son's Suzuki 750 GSRX, axle flanges for a garden tractor, etc.

This is the best lube, rust breaker,gun cleaner,leather restorer etc etc you will find. It is also a great cutting oil. I use Ballistol to lube & protect knives & straight razors.

The Grizzly G9729 appears to be the same machine as the Bolton BT800. Was leaning toward the Grizzly, but might consider a used BT800 if I find a good deal. From what I can tell, the the main between the G9729 and the Smithy 1230 are the swing over the bed ( 16.5 inch versus 12 inch) and maybe threading.
